Yesterday we took part in the RSPB’s great British birdwatch, sitting like a pair of twitchers on our camping chairs, armed with binoculars, recording sheet, bird book and appropriate beverages, much to the amusement of our neighbour! We get loads of birds in the garden, and have feeders set up to encourage them in – fortunately, the squirrels that plagued us last winter seem to have found an alternative source of seeds.
These are the species we saw in the hour-long slot yesterday:
Blackbird
Robin
Blue tit
Dunnock
Song thrush
Carrion crow
Starling
Long-tailed tit
Woodpigeon
Coal tit
Great tit
Magpie
Wren
Buzzard
Nuthatch
Greater spotted woodpecker
Jay
We occasionally see Chaffinches, Goldfinches and Bullfinches, but have never seen a sparrow.
Nevertheless, biodiversity seems to be alive and well in the Cwm!
